At the unveiling of the National Payment Stack in Lagos, Premier Oiwoh outlined NIBSS’s plans for the next stage of Nigeria’s digital payment infrastructure. Premium Times published its report on 18 June 2025.

Oiwoh described a platform designed to support fast, secure payments for individuals, businesses and institutions. He highlighted the use of ISO 20022 messaging, which carries richer payment information, and the intention to improve connections between payment systems.

The presentation also addressed fraud prevention and trust. Oiwoh discussed tools intended to identify suspicious activity and help protect the institutions and customers using the platform.

Regional cooperation was another theme. With financial-sector representatives from across Africa attending, the launch connected Nigeria’s infrastructure plans to the broader ambition of making payments work more easily across borders.
